HACKNEY 'TOO DANGEROUS' FOR DELIVERY DRIVERS

PARTS of Hackney are so dangerous that takeaway firms are refusing to deliver to customers who live in them, writes Alistair Gray.

Pizza chain bosses have told drivers to avoid the areas marked on the map above after a spate of assaults on workers.

Managers at Domino’s have drawn up a blacklist of the worst trouble spots. The firm insists it was forced to make the move because drivers were subjected to “repeated attacks” in specific streets and estates in the borough.

Internal guidelines, seen by the Post, tell order-takers to pay close attention to the area, since some locations in Hackney are “extremely dangerous” for their drivers.

The document states: “If you notice any of these areas while taking an order, politely tell the customer about the problems with delivery and ask them to meet the driver in some other place.

“Remember, if the customer is unlikely to leave the house, please inform your manager and do not argue with them.”

But the move has drawn the wrath of frustrated residents who believe they are being criminalised for living on a particular street.

Included on the blacklist is Balmes Road, a street in upmarket De Beauvoir Town.

Rob Chapman, councillor for the area, admitted crime was one of the biggest concerns of his constituents but insisted the firm’s action was “unnecessary”.
